Special Lens In UCSD Clinical Trials Measures Internal Eye Pressure

SAN DIEGO — Doctors and researchers at UC San Diego’s Shiley Eye Center are conducting the first large-scale clinical trials of what’s being called a “smart” contact lens.

“This is a very smart contact lens,” said Dr. Robert Weinreb, the chairman of ophthalmology at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Weinreb is considered the world’s leading authority on glaucoma.
